The Emmons County SCD Board of Supervisors serves on a volunteer basis. 
SCD Board meetings are held the second Thursday of each month with the
exception of August, which no meeting is held.  All meetings are held in the
USDA Federal Building in Linton and are open to the public.

We would like to send out a thank you to all of the producers that have planted trees with the district and attended various conservation meetings sponsored by the district.  The Board of Supervisors would also like to extend a Thank You to all of the area schools that participated in our youth activities throughout the year.   Thanks for making conservation an important part of your farming operation.

District Activities and Accomplishments

 

· Sponsored 7th Grade Conservation Tour for all county schools.

· Sponsored coloring, poster, and essay contests for all county schools, grades 3-6.

· Sponsored 3 One Pass Seeding “Show & Tell” Meetings for local producers and a self guided summer tour

· Sponsored a Range Tour for area producers

· Participated in the Keep N.D. Clean Poster Contest – free trees presented to winning students.

· Sponsored Tom Gibson with his TREES (The Regional Environmental Education Series) presentation to area schools.

· Sponsored producers to the Annual Manitoba-ND Zero Tillage Association workshop in Bismarck, ND.

· Distributed free Soil Stewardship Week material to area churches and invited clergy and representative to the Annual Awards Banquet

· Held Annual Conservation Awards Banquet and presented awards to all conservation awards winners from the county.

· Attended Area IV SCD/ARS Research Farm Results Workshop.

· Attended North Dakota Association of Soil Conservation Districts state convention in Bismarck.

· Judged entries at the local Science Fair.

· News releases and articles on SCD activities prepared for the news media.

· Financial donations made to ND 4-H Foundation

· Maintain memberships to NDASCD, NACD, RC&D Council, Manitoba-ND Zero Tillage Association, and National Arbor Day Foundation.

· Co-sponsor of the Beaver Creek Watershed Project and published yearly newsletter.

· Beaver Creek Watershed Project exhibit was displayed at the NDASCD Annual Convention.

· Published quarterly newsletter for owners and operators

· Held 5th Annual Women in Agriculture Banquet

· Sponsored 4/$500.00 high school senior scholarships

· Sponsored students to the Gateway to Science Fair in Bismarck

· Provided materials to area schools for Earth Day awareness

· Attended Area IV Meeting

· Sponsored teachers to the Project Wet and Wild Workshop

Arbor Day informational materials passed out

 

Conservation Accomplishments:

11 Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) contracts developed 9,731.1 acres

18 new CRP Continuous contracts written for 91 acres

2 Beaver Creek 319 contracts written for 516 acres

29 CRP contracts of managed haying on 1526.4 acres

295 CRP  emergency haying contracts on 17,728.8 acres

83 CRP contracts done under emergency grazing on 7334.6 acres

 

Conservation Practices

· 23.1 acres of wildlife habitat established

· 19,210 hand plants planted

· 287,160 feet of machine planted trees

· 246,590 feet weed barrier fabric installed on trees

· 119,561 feet of fence installed

· Nutrient Management applied on 844 acres

· 21,827 feet of pipeline installed

· 2,980 acres of prescribed grazing

· 1,402 acres of residue management applied

· 8 livestock wells installed

· 13 livestock water tanks

· 2 center irrigation pivots reorganized
