The Emmons County SCD Board of Supervisors serves on a volunteer basis.

SCD Board meetings are held the second Thursday of each month with the exception of August, which no meeting is held.  All meetings are held in the USDA Federal Building in Linton and are open to the public.

District Activities and Accomplishments

· Sponsored 7th Grade Conservation Tour for all county schools.

· Sponsored coloring, poster, and essay contests for all county schools, grades 3-6.

· Sponsored 2 Zero Till “Show & Tell” Meetings for local producers.

· Participated in the Keep N.D. Clean Poster Contest – free trees presented to winning students.

· Sponsored Tom Gibson with his TREES (The Regional Environmental Education Series) presentation to area schools.

· Sponsored producers to the Annual Manitoba-ND Zero Tillage Association workshop in Bismarck, ND.

· Held Soil Stewardship Banquet for all clergy in the county and distributed free Soil Stewardship Week material to area churches.

· Welcome letter mailed to new clergy in the county.

· Held Annual Conservation Awards Banquet and presented awards to all conservation awards winners from the county.

· Attended Area IV SCD/ARS Research Farm Results Workshop.

· Attended North Dakota Association of Soil Conservation Districts state convention in Bismarck.

· Invited NRCS personnel to attend a regular monthly SCD meeting.

· Annual Report published in local newspaper.

· Judged entries at the local Science Fair.

· News releases and articles on SCD activities prepared for the news media.

· Financial donations made to ND 4-H Foundation and the National Association of Extension 4-H Agents.

· Maintain memberships to NDASCD, NACD, RC&D Council, Manitoba-ND Zero Tillage Association, and National Arbor Day Foundation.

· Co-sponsor of the Beaver Creek Watershed Project.

· Beaver Creek Watershed Project exhibit was displayed at the NDASCD Annual Convention.

· Print quarterly newsletter.

· Sponsored a Better Grazing Group Range Management Meeting

· Held 2 Better Grazing Group Range Tours

· Held 2nd Annual Women in Agriculture Banquet

· Sponsored high school senior scholarships

· Held hand plant day on April 26th, sold over 27,362 trees

· New SCD Placemat was designed

CONSERVATION REPORT

2003 was a good year for conservation planning in Emmons County.  The NRCS and SCD staffs were active in assisting producers in developing conservation plans and applying conservation practices, through USDA programs and the Beaver Creek Watershed Project.

Conservation Accomplishments:

· 12 Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) contracts developed for 4,458 acres

· 11 new CRP Continuous contracts written for 107.4 acres

· 4 WHIP contracts developed for 30 acres

· 10 Beaver Creek 319 contracts written for 2,550

· 7 CRP contracts written for 1,357.3 acres

· 4 Forest Land Enhancement Contracts written for 92.6 acres

· 7 CRP Grazing Plans for 429 acres

· 250 CRP haying plans for 14,434 acres

Agronomic Practices Applied:

· 501 acres of wildlife habitat established

· 123,340 trees planted

· 108,873 feet farmstead trees planted

· 252,875 feet field trees planted

· 176,000 feet wildlife trees planted

· 402,078 feet weed barrier fabric installed on trees

· 17,800 feet living snow fence trees planted

· 84,500 feet trees scalped into sod

· 27,200 feet riparian forest planted

· 43,250 feet or 10 acres of Coverlock shelterbelts planted

· 3,193 acres prescribed grazing management applied

· 2,853 acres if No-till and minimum till management applied

· 2,148 acres of Nutrient Management Applied

Erosion Control – Structural Conservation Practices:

· 8 wells

· 14 stock water tanks

· 11 pipelines for 23,895 feet

· 44,860 feet of fence installed

· 274 acres of grass/legumes planted

· 1 Ag/Waste System
