The Emmons County SCD Board of Supervisors serves on a volunteer basis.  SCD Board meetings are held the second Thursday of each month with the exception of August, which no meeting is held.  All meetings are held in the USDA Federal Building in Linton and are open to the public.

We would like to send out a thank you to all of the producers that have planted trees with the district and attended various conservation meetings sponsored by the district.  The Board of Supervisors would also like to extend a Thank You to all of the area schools that participated in our youth activities throughout the year.   Thanks for making conservation an important part of your farming operation.


All programs and services of the Soil Conservation District are offered on a nondiscriminatory basis, without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, marital status, or handicap.

District Activities and Accomplishments

· Sponsored 7th Grade Conservation Tour for all county schools.

· Sponsored coloring, poster, and essay contests for all county schools, grades 3-6.

· Sponsored 3 One Pass Seeding “Show & Tell” Meetings for local producers and a self guided summer tour

· Sponsored a Range Tour for area producers

· Participated in the Keep N.D. Clean Poster Contest – free trees presented to winning students.

· Sponsored Tom Gibson with his TREES (The Regional Environmental Education Series) presentation to area schools.

· Sponsored producers to the Annual Manitoba-ND Zero Tillage Association workshop in Bismarck, ND.

· Distributed free Soil Stewardship Week material to area churches and invited clergy and representative to the Annual Awards Banquet

· Held Annual Conservation Awards Banquet and presented awards to all conservation awards winners from the county.

· Attended Area IV SCD/ARS Research Farm Results Workshop.

· Attended North Dakota Association of Soil Conservation Districts state convention in Bismarck.

· Judged entries at the local Science Fair.

· News releases and articles on SCD activities prepared for the news media.

· Financial donations made to ND 4-H Foundation

· Maintain memberships to NDASCD, NACD, RC&D Council, Manitoba-ND Zero Tillage Association, and National Arbor Day Foundation.

· Co-sponsor of the Beaver Creek Watershed Project and published yearly newsletter.

· Beaver Creek Watershed Project exhibit was displayed at the NDASCD Annual Convention.

· Published quarterly newsletter for owners and operators

· Held 4th Annual Women in Agriculture Banquet

· Sponsored 4/$500.00 high school senior scholarships

· Participated in Children’s Learning Fair in Linton

· Sponsored students to the Gateway to Science Fair in Bismarck

· Provided materials to area schools for Earth Day awareness

· Sponsored youth to Conservation Camp

· Hosted Area IV meeting in June

· Arbor Day participation at the Legion Park

· Held an Animal Waste Tour along with Logan County

CONSERVATION REPORT

2005 was a good year for conservation planning in Emmons County.  The NRCS and SCD staffs were active in assisting producers in developing conservation plans and applying conservation practices, through USDA programs and the Beaver Creek Watershed Project.

Conservation Accomplishments:

· 15 Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) contracts developed 17,330 acres

· 20 new CRP Continuous contracts written for 97.3 acres

· 31 Beaver Creek 319 contracts written for 3,400 acres

· 9 Forest Land Enhancement Contracts written for 19.6 acres

· 18 CRP Grazing Plans for 587 acres

· 184 CRP Haying plans for 11,125 acres

· 48 Conservation Security Program Contracts

Agronomic Practices Applied:

· 213 acres of wildlife habitat established

· 103,345 trees planted

· 220,585 feet farmstead trees planted

· 6,147 feet field trees planted

· 173,475 feet wildlife trees planted

· 247,589 feet weed barrier fabric installed on trees

· 30,000 feet living snow fence trees planted

· 82,517 feet trees scalped into sod

· 116,307 feet riparian forest planted

· 18,278 acres prescribed grazing management applied

· 57,600 acres if No-till and minimum till management applied

· 56,910 acres of Nutrient Management Applied

Erosion Control – Structural Conservation Practices:

· 13 wells

· 26 stock water tanks

· 7 pipelines for 21,387 feet

· 120,550 feet of fence installed

· 205 acres of grass/legumes planted

· 3 Livestock Watering Ponds
