Organization of the Governing Body The Emmons County Soil Conservation District was organized on September 9, 1951. The District is a government subdivision of state and the public body, corporate and politic representing all the land within its boundaries. The District is governed by a five-man board of supervisors. Three of the supervisors are elected by qualified electors of the district. The three elected supervisors appoint an additional two supervisors. Their primary responsibility is to develop, administer, and educate on programs to provide for the conservation of the soil and soil resources of our district. They will also continue to cooperate with individuals, groups, or agencies of government through cooperative agreements. They will also plan, implement, and maintain programs relating to the conservation of natural resources.

District Location The Emmons County Soil Conservation District is located in the south central part of North Dakota. The district boundaries correspond with the boundaries of Emmons County. Its boundaries are bordered on the west by Morton and Sioux Counties, the north by Burleigh and Kidder Counties, the east by Logan and McIntosh Counties, and the south the state of South Dakota. |

Cooperating Agencies and Organizations To effectively carry out the various activities of the District, it becomes necessary to call upon other agencies and organizations for assistance, information, and technical advice. Conversely, the District is often called upon for assistance and services by other agencies and organizations. It is mutually beneficial, therefore, for the District and these various agencies and organizations to cooperate within the authorities of the District Law and availability of funds and personnel. |

Emmons County is one of the 53 counties in North Dakota. The population according to the 2004 census was 3,913. There is approximately 1,510 square miles of land and 45 square miles of water, totaling 1,555 square miles of land in the county. Located centrally in the County, Linton holds as the County Seat. |
